Design Trend Ruling 2021

What an end of a decade, the year 2020 has indeed created history. This year has been draining, be it mentally, physically or financially. It affected lives and businesses. Interior Designing was amongst one of the most impacted practices and specially for the startups and fresher. No doubt these peculiar times have made one rethink about the way any business would work. The digital penetration and the virtual way of functioning has given a new hope for 2021.

Working from home all through these months, have made me realize that home should be a self sufficient place in itself. It should no longer be only aesthetically pleasing but also should connect with one’s personal self. It should be easy on maintenance yet be classy, simple yet not boring, full of greens yet be light on eyes. Not only it should cater to multiple people but also should be easy to handle. It not only made me realize the importance of being at home but also forced me to rethink the purpose of redefining homes and life at home. Homes are no longer the stops between office hours but are spaces to cherish and spend your entire time. From a drastic drifting trend of just sleeping and eating at home, it will now be a place which will define multiple dedicated areas like home offices, exercise areas, party areas – the multipurpose spaces will shift to being dedicated areas. The spaces now should be a conscious portrayal of the people staying in that particular home.
Lets look at the trend that will be seen in 2021 to refine spaces

Layered Minimum

With an increase demand in storage, right amount of furniture with smart hidden storages will gain much popularity. Upholstery and fabrics will rule the space – pick a warmer tone in muted environment. Clean lines with no sharp edges will be preferred. Placing of furniture will be looked upon to create much more open spaces than usual. A lot will also depend on the levels of lighting – make sure to have different types of lighting to set different rhythm of moods apart from the natural light coming in. One of the trends that’s gaining popularity is Japanese minimalism, also called as Japadi.

Whites & Muted Spaces With Introduction Of Beautiful Colors

The focus will shift to visual interests, color coordination and playful connect. It can be done in form of decors, bold pieces, artwork. Simple monochromatic or neutrals will have to be mixed with expressive color combination to keep the interest.

Nature Derived

A lot of things will depend on the natural light pouring in – incorporate as much of it is possible. Interest will shift purely to natural greens rather than artificial. Water bodies, plants, home grown kits, colors derived from nature and more of organic structures will be a priority. There should be no clear barrier between outside and inside. Prefer glass or sliders or breaking of walls where you can incorporate outside greens.

Less Open Layouts And More Dedicated Spaces

We all loved open plans and layout but having seen the past months, it is important to have dedicated spaces for each member working from home or children taking classes. Breaking walls to open kitchen will be in trend so as to make it feel like part of home. The movement between the spaces will be an important factor – there should be a flow of travel in the home defining different characteristics. The optimization of spaces and making multifunctional areas will take a back seat and dedicated full spaces will come in place. Home offices will gain importance along with separate rooms and more private spaces. For places where homes are smaller, planning out furniture layout and choosing right tone of colors will play importance.

Natural Textures

Earthy tones will be a highlight this season. Natural textures, dark woods, beige and terracotta will take center stage as they create palette which is easy on eyes and almost goes well with everything. A lot of textures will come into play as it will be a source of creating joyful spaces. People should invest in rich finishes, really good materials and best furniture as they will be easier to manage and will long last. Choose colors or materials to which one can emotionally attach to.

Sustainable And Eco Friendly Decors

The décor made out of muds, terracotta or clay will be important because it much more sustainable. Also, bamboo is gaining importance and is a beautiful addition to home. More of refurbishing and remodeling of existing furniture can take place. Plastics will take backseat and renewable sources will play a good role.

DIY & Local Market

A lot of trend will drift to the local manufacturers and their creativity. As people have now started supporting the Indian market, it will be observed that the local artisan and their products will be considered in adding to the decor – thus supporting the home grown brands. This means that hint of Indian culture will reflect in quite a few things and the decor will have to be matched up. People at home have tried a lot of DIYs which will also trend this season – it will add a lot of individuality to each home.
Discussing about trends can never be sufficient as we see every single day there is new addition to the market and more than that I believe that every individual personality has a different taste and its absolutely the best idea to go according their liking.

I think if you use the above-mentioned tips, it will make a difference to the overall grey environment. These changes are little but they make a significant difference in creating a happy ambiance and believe me, you will be bored with the monsoon but not with the decor.
